Meet the new teachers and staff

10 persons new to Bluffton schools this year

New staff members of the Bluffton schools were announced in the recent newsletter sent to residents of the district. Here is a brief sketch of each.

Abby Diller - Elementary Teacher
Abby Diller, the new 4th-grade teacher, graduated from Cedarville University in 2018 and began her teaching career in the 4th and 5th grades at Trotwood-Madison. Originally from Dayton, she married and moved to Pandora in May.

Embrace community while embarking on a new normal

University welcomes 121st class of students as official members of the campus community

Bluffton University officially welcomed its 121st class of students as official members of the campus community during a virtual Opening Convocation Ceremony.

Watching via Zoom while gathered with their Becoming a Scholar first-year seminar classes, students were challenged by the message “Choosing your Impact in a World of Trouble” by Eric Kurtz, executive director of MCC Great Lakes. During his presentation, Kurtz focused on three big issues dominating the world.

Private graveside services for Donna Augsburger

Donna G. Augsburger, 91, of Bluffton died Aug. 31, 2020 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.  Private graveside services will be held.  Arrangements are pending at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffto

Grove wins opener against Pirates

BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton football team lost to Columbus Grove 41-7 in the season and Northwest Conference opener Friday night at Harmon Field.

The Pirates fell to 0-1 overall (0-1 NWC East) with the defeat. The Bulldogs, defending tri-champions of the NWC, are 1-0 in each department.

CG senior quarterback Blake Reynolds hit junior receiver Jacksen Schroeder with a short pass, and he outran the Pirate defense for a 68-yard catch and carry TD to make it 7-0 at the 6:57 mark of the first quarter.

Lady Pirate netters whip Spartans

Bath stops BHS girls in soccer

LIMA - The visiting Bluffton girls tennis team whipped Lima Senior 5-0 Saturday morning.

The shutout win upped the Lady Pirate record to 2-4. Bluffton won easily without dropping a set.

Senior Julia Smallcombe triumphed at first singles 6-1, 6-1.

Bluffton senior Olivia Barnes easily won her second singles match 6-1, 6-0. 

Classmate Pearl Lewandowski also cruised to victory at third singles 6-1, 6-2.

The Bluffton junior duo of Libby Frazier and Ellie Nickel also won handily 6-0, 6-2 at first doubles.

Bluffton harriers open season

BHS boys' 5th of 9 teams

DELPHOS - The Bluffton boys cross country team finished fifth of nine teams at the Delphos Blue Jay Invitational Saturday at Stadium Park.

Columbus Grove won the boys team title with 48 points, finishing just ahead of Anna (51). Bluffton was fifth with 118 points.

Pirate sophomore Erik Nygaard finished ninth in the 88-runner field with a time of 18:08.9 to pace Bluffton.

Senior Brandon Good was second for Bluffton and 20th overall in 19:13.03. Classmate Elijah Conley ended up 25th in 19:23.29.
