Trinity Lutheran trunk or treat on Oct. 31

A family-friendly Trunk or Treat will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church and School, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, on Thursday, October 31, from 5:30-8 p.m. 

Children of all ages are encourages to come trick-or-treating at trunks in the parking lot behind the church. Free hay rides will be offered from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Inside the school gym, there will be free crafts, games, sensory bins, cookie decorating, and pumpkin decorating.  Food will be available for purchase.

Shane Halcomb in Louisville Ironman event

Shane Halcomb of Bluffton recently participated in and completed the Louisville Ironman. Although the swim portion was cancelled due to toxic algea in the Ohio River, the course did consist of a 112-mile bicycle ride followed by a full marathon of 26.2 miles. 

"There was much serious training involved prior to the competition,” said Halcomb.

Beavers stop Manchester in three sets

The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Manchester University on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, for a matchup against the Spartans. The Beavers secured a three-set victory (25-20, 25-22, 25-18) over the home team. Bluffton improved to 6-20 (2-4 HCAC) while Manchester dropped to 10-13 (0-5 HCAC).

Senior Citizens Center director is Lions Club speaker

Tonya Meyer, director of Bluffton Senior Citizens Center provided Bluffton Lions with a update of the Main Street center earlier this month. She is the center’s fifth director.

The Bluffton Senior Citizens Association has over 600 members, and an annual budget of $300,000.

Bluffton boys romp past Willard

Next up - district finals vs Riverdale on Saturday

TIFFIN - The top-seeded Bluffton boys soccer team handily defeated Willard 6-2 in Div. III district semifinal action at Tiffin Columbian Wednesday evening.

The win upped the Pirate record to 14-2-2 and advanced them to the district finals against third seed Riverdale (14-0-4) Saturday evening. Willard ends its season 8-9-1 with the defeat.

Against the sixth-seeded Crimson Flashes, the Pirates raced to a 3-0 lead and extended it to 6-2 just past the midway point of the second half to win going away.

Third quarter building permits total nearly $850,000

Permits reached $2.3 million in first nine months of 2019

All 2019 building permits are posted at the bottom of this story -

Village of Bluffton building permits totaled nearly $850,000 in the third quarter of 2019, according to the village office.

Twenty-four permits were issued from July 1 through Sept. 30, which included five commercial and the rest residential. The largest two permits in the third quarter were houses, listed at $293,000 and $290,000.

Total Bluffton building permits for 2019 have reached $2.3 million. The chart below lists all permits filed this year.
