Columbus Crew camp comes to BFR in December

Columbus Crew Soccer Camp to be held at BFR Sports and Fitness Center, according to Carole Enneking, director. BFR's annual Columbus Crew camp has been moved to December this year.

Youth ages 6 years to 15 years are welcome to register for the half-day day camp held at BFR. Jeremy Parkins, Bluffton High School graduate and past Crew player, will direct the camp. To register, log onto the Crew's website

Grace Mennonite book sale Dec. 4-5

Grace Mennonite Church, 502 E. Main St. in Pandora will be having a book sale on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6:30-8:30 and Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. - 1p.m.

Faith and Life Books and Gifts from Berne, Ind., will bring a variety of books including children, youth, adult books, commentaries, Bibles, and cookbooks. Christmas items, Advent devotionals, CD's, and gift items will also be available.

Library launches program to offset state budget cuts

HELP FILL BLUFFTON PUBLIC LIBRARY SHELVES WITH NEW BOOKS

Bluffton Public Library is launching a "Buck$ for Book$" campaign to help offset projected cuts in state funding for 2010. The campaign will officially begin Dec. 1 - just in time for the holidays.

According to library director Cindi Chasse, the goal of the campaign is to raise $5,000 over the next 12 months. "All proceeds will be used to lessen the impact of a projected loss of 30% of state funding revenue in 2010 on the library's material budget," Chasse said.

Runners run races for many reasons, but what gets most of us through them is the promise of something edible at the finish line. Today's Run for the Turkeys 5K was no different, although in my case I was hoping most for plain old water. Mary Ann wanted coffee. I got water, she got coffee, and we both took a few of the "energy bars" laid out on the post-run table. True to form, though, neither of us ate them.

Candy making class at Maple Crest Dec. 2

Interested in learning about making holiday candy? Maple Crest Senior Living Village, Bluffton, is offering a candy-making class at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2.
