2011 Bluffton grad named assistant track and field coach at ONU

Jason Fisher has been named a full-time assistant coach for the Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field teams.

Fisher becomes the first full-time throws coach in ONU history and will work with the team's discus, javelin, shot put and weight throw student/athletes.

He spent the 2019-20 season as a part-time assistant coach for the Polar Bears and will be in his second season at Ohio Northern.

He came to ONU after five seasons as a throws coach for Bluffton University and three more as a throws coach at Parkway High School.

Alexandra Besecker on Hofstra dean's list

Alexandra Besecker of Bluffton achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the Spring 2020 semester, earning a spot on the Provost's List at Hofstra University, Hempstead, N.Y.

Governor issues statewide mask order

"We believe that requiring masks statewide will make a significant difference and will be key to making sure other counties do not progress to a higher level of increased spread."

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted today provided the following updates on Ohio's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

STATEWIDE MASK ORDER
Governor DeWine announced that beginning on Thursday, July 23, at 6 p.m., a statewide mask mandate will go into effect for citizens living in all 88 Ohio counties.

Funeral arrangements incomplete for Lynn Wolford

Lynn Wolford, 84, died July 22, 2020 at the Hilty Memorial Home in Pandora.  Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 25, at Pandora United Methodist Church. 

Visitation will be Friday from 6 – 8 p.m., at the church and one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Over 9,000 pair of glasses

Bluffton Lions keeps an eye out for people with vision needs

Bluffton Lions Club keeps an eye out for people with vision needs.

Bluffton Lions Club members Ed Yeager (in the photo) along with  Barbara Plaugher transported over 9,000 pairs of glasses from the collection address near Bellefontaine to the Pandora sorting center in July.  

Dennis Morrison assisted with transport of glasses in May from Germantown to the sorting center.  

 Dan Diller helped with the transport in June from Ashland collection area also to Pandora. These glasses collected from Lion’s clubs around the state are then processed for third-world missions.

Alois Schmitzer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran, Jenera, retires

Pastor Alois "Brownie" Schmitzer III, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jenera, retired after 40 years in the public ministry in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. 

A farewell service and meal were held July 19 with the six Schmitzer children and families in attendance.
