Schaadt's 17 points leads BHS over Kenton

Lady Pirates entertain Elida Saturday afternoon

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton defeated non-conference foe Kenton convincingly 50-35 in girls basketball play Thursday evening.

Bluffton led 29-23 at halftime and outscored the Lady Wildcats 14-7 in the third period to build a 13-point lead. The Lady Pirates held Kenton to just 12 second-half points to win going away.

The Pirate girls improved to 9-1 overall with their ninth consecutive victory. Meanwhile, Kenton fell to 3-4 with the defeat.

Different downtown view

Looks like Bluffton, but it's not. Similar streetscape, street lights and storefronts. Here's a downtown Ada view photographed through a Christmas wreath at the Ada First United Methodist Church. Like Bluffton, Christmas lights and decorations are slowing coming down in anticipation of the next holiday, honoring St. Valentine.

Very busy year for Bluffton EMS

Jan Basinger: "With nearly 400 transported patients, this is the most in my 28 years of service."

Bluffton EMS transported 375 patients to area hospitals in 2019, according to Jan Basinger, EMS chief. And, it responded to 447 calls within the village of Bluffton and 99 outside the village.

“We were very busy this year,” Basinger told The Icon. “With nearly 400 transported patients, this is the most in my 28 years of service.”

The 2019 figures compare to 2018 when 358 patients were transported to hospitals and EMS responded to 403 calls within the village and 98 outside the village.

July had the greatest number of calls at 50; February the lowest at 36.

Verb leads Bluffton swimmers at Holiday Invite

LIMA - The Bluffton Swim Club competed in the annual 23-team Holiday Invitational meet at the Lima YMCA Monday. 

The Bluffton girls swimmers finished 21st out of 23 schools, while the Bluffton boys came in 10th out of 22 by scoring 80.5 points.

Freshman Riley Verb took second in the 100 breaststroke and also finished third in the 100 backstroke to pace the Bluffton swimmers.

Allison Diller came in 11th in the 500 free to register the top Bluffton girls individual finish.

Mercy Health, Lima, president is Presidential Leadership speaker

At Bluffton University on Jan. 14

Ronda K. Lehman, president, Mercy Health Lima, will share “My Leadership Journey in Health Care,” during Bluffton University’s Presidential Leadership Forum at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Lehman will reflect on experiences and challenges in the health care marketplace.

Named president of Mercy Health’s Lima Market in September, Lehman has served the Lima community as a member of Mercy Health since 1995, when she began as a pharmacy intern.
