Church-pop culture relationship examined in January forum

 

Ken Heffner, director of student activities at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., will reflect on the relationship between the church and popular culture in a Bluffton University forum Jan. 7.

Speaking at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall, he will address “Why should we care about Arcade Fire? A Christian approach to popular culture.” His presentation is free and open to the public.

Kistler's 16 leads Bluffton over Wapak in non-league action

When was the last time Bluffton High School boys defeated Wapakoneta in basketball? Perhaps the early 1950s?

The Pirates beat the Western Buckeye League opponents 57-41 at Bluffton on Tuesday. After leading 16-11 after one quarter and 21-18 at half, Bluffton extended its lead to 36-29 after three before pulling away in the final period.

Levi Kistler of Bluffton led all scorers tonight with 16 points. Both team's box scores are attachments at the bottom of this story.

Suddenly we've experienced 8.5 inches of snowfall - not counting Dec. 17

When it rains it pours and when it snows it really snows.

Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, reports that the snowfall of Saturday, Dec. 14, was 6.3 inches.

Add one-half inch of snow on the 13th and 1.7 inches on the 16th and suddenly we’ve accumulated 8.5 inches – not counting snowfall on Dec. 17.

To add to the wintry conditions, the low temperature of the month reached minus 2 on Dec. 12.

Public library holiday closings announced

 

Bluffton Public Library will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 25.   On Dec. 31, the library will close at 5:30 p.m. and reopen at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 2.

The Cutnaw football era begins in 2014 at Bluffton High School - new coach replaces Dennis Lee who retired

Kyle Cutnaw has replaced Dennis Lee as head football coach at Bluffton High School, according to Alex Hanna, BHS athletic director. His contract was approved at the Dec. 16 Bluffton school board meeting.

"Coach Cutnaw has extensive experience both playing and coaching football. He played football at and graduated from Bluffton University. Kyle was the head football coach at Edgerton High School, before moving on as a wide receivers coach/JV offensive coordinator at Otterbein College," said Hanna.
