Volleyball: Loss drops Beavers to 9-13 overall

The Bluffton University volleyball team was looking to make a statement at Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 9, but the Lions held on for the four-set victory. Bluffton dipped to 9-13 overall and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference, while MSJ improved to 10-13 and 1-1 in the HCAC.

Look at all these youth classes offered at BFR Sports and Fitness

The week of Oct. 14 will kick off several youth sport-related classes at BFR Sports & Fitness, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director.  

K-3 Football Skills (Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 3:30-4:30 PM) and Basketball Skills (Thursday, Oct. 17 from 3:30-4:30 PM) will begin for six weeks (ending the week of December 2nd).  

Rookie All Sports will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 15 and meet for four weeks. Dodgeball Play will begin another seven week session on Oct. 25 (Fridays 3:30-4:30 PM); dodgeball is available as a drop-in activity for $3 per day (Free for BFR members).

Seasonal flu vaccine available to community

Allen County Public Health announces the community season flu shot clinic schedule for everyone – 6 months of age and older.  

The vaccine will be available at  the Allen County Health Department: Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays: 8-9 a.m. and 3-4 p.m. or by appointment.  Appointments can be made by visiting our website (www.allencountyhealthdepartment.org)  or by phone at 419-228-4457.

Friends of the Library annual membership meeting Oct. 22

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library will hold their annual general membership meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the Richland Room of the library. 

All members are encouraged to attend, and new members are welcome. Come to find out what the Friends have been doing in the past year, and how the Friends have helped the library. 

There will be good conversation and light refreshments.

Corn harvest

Corn is coming off the field just north of State Route 30 (see the semi in the background). After a rainy weekend fields have dried out enough for some farmers to return to their harvest.

Now it's Bluffton University turn for homecoming

Bluffton University will celebrate Homecoming Oct. 10-13, including a day filled with activities for alumni and the community on Saturday, Oct. 12.
