Senior Center holds memorial service for deceased members

The Bluffton Senior Citizens Association held its annual memorial service for members who died from November 2013 through October 2013. The service was part of the Nov. 11 monthly potluck. The following persons were remembered:

Local companies/unions honored with national safety award

Husky Energy, RMF Nooter, GEM Industrial, Inc., PRO-TEC Coating Co. and the Lima Building Trades Council were presented with prestigious Zero Injury Safety Awards (ZISA) during the National Maintenance Agreement Policy Committee's annual gala in Washington, DC on Oct. 24.

GEM Industrial, Inc., PRO-TEC Coating Co. and the Lima Building Trades Council received the ZISA Bronze Star for working 399,567 hours at the Continuous Annealing Plant in Leipsic in 2012 without an OSHA recordable injury.

Chappell-Dick qualifies For NCAA Division III cross country nationals

Bluffton High School graduate and Eastern Mennonite University sophomore Hannah Chappell-Dick finished 12th at Saturday's South/Southeast cross country regional in Newport News, qualifying for the NCAA Division III national meet while spurring the team on to a seventh-place finish.

Chappell-Dick, running in just her third race of the year, stumbled twice as she neared the 6k finish line, but still crossed in 22:59.02 to claim the final individual qualifying spot. She also earned All-Region honors with the finish.

Paul King 1929-2013

John King provided the following death notice:

Paul M. King of Bluffton, died on Feb. 13, 2013, in Fort Myers Beach, Fla.

He was born to Jay and Lulu King on April 17, 1929, in Ohio. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Denver, Colo., and Anchorage, Ak. He graduated from Bluffton College with a degree in business. He met his wife, Lois (Marquart), at Bluffton and they had three children.

He was an agent and district manager for Nationwide Insurance and later became director of development at Bluffton University.
