Celebrate the Derby with something from the Senior Center

The 147th running of the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, May 1.

Tonya Meyer says that if you want to celebrate, stop in the Senior Center and pick up a pound of Mint Julep Chocolate Kentucky Bourbon fudge for $18.50.

"We have 20 pounds so don't wait. The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DEFIANCE - The Bluffton track and field teams competed at the 18-school Diller Invitational hosted by Defiance Ayersville Saturday.

The Pirate boys came in eighth out of 15 squads. Columbus Grove captured the boys title with 140.33 points to beat Minster by 12 points. Bluffton tallied 33 points.

Wanda Geiger was a missionary in France for 40 years

Wanda Marie Geiger, 91, died April 25, 2021, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  Wanda was born July 9, 1929, in Bluffton to the late Eldon and Grace (Lora) Tschiegg. On August 3, 1951, she married Wallace Geiger and he survives.

That time of year

After a one-year absence the Bluffton Sportsmen's Club bring back its first-Sunday-in-May trout derby. Here Mike Falk and Tom Augsburger tag one of the 250 tagged trout in the derby. Fishing is now closed in the Buckeye until 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2. Sportsmen's Club memberships will be on sale at the derby and in advance at The Dough Hook.

Saturday invite from Bluffton tree commission

Tree planting ceremony in the village park

National Arbor Day is Friday, April 30.

The Village of Bluffton will celebrate the event on Saturday, May 1, at 3 p.m. with the planting of three conifer trees at the south end of the soccer fields at the village park, according to Jon Sommer of the Bluffton Tree Commission.

“All are invited to participate in this event, keeping in mind social distancing,” he said.

“You are also encouraged to plant a tree of your own leading up to or on Arbor Day.
