Former Bluffton resident David Joseph Rempel Smucker, 71, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, died March 12, 2021, following a long and courageous struggle with kidney disease.

Quarry Farm invites you on a Saturday spring sparrow hike

Check out earliest spring wildflowers and see different sparrow species

The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve & Conservation Farm will  conduct a spring sparrow kike on Saturday, March 20, the first day of Spring 2021.

Beginning at 10 a.m., participants will look for the earliest spring wildflowers. As March 20 is also World Sparrow Day, hikers will see how many different species of sparrows can be spotted and submit our findings to ebird, one of the world’s largest biodiversity-related science projects.

As I promised in an earlier article, I’m writing an article about the growth mindset. In school, I learned about this mindset, and it has given me some perspective.  

This may be oversimplified, so be sure to take what I say with a grain of salt.  

There are two different mindsets. The growth mindset and the fixed mindset. These mindsets are based on our perception and response to failure and challenging tasks.

Liquidation merchandise store open on Main Street, Ada

FROM ADA ICON - Ada’s newest business, Pallet Girls, opened recently in the former Reichert’s storefront at 111-113 S. Main St., Ada.

Owners Michelle Pierce and Shane Downing, lifelong Ada residents, have had a “soft” opening as merchandise continues to fill the store.

“We feature liquidation merchandise,” Michelle told the Icon. “Our merchandise is from major realtors including Target, Sam’s Club and Walmart.”

“We purchase pallets of items. Nearly 98 percent includes new items,” she said. “We may have some return items that have boxes open.”

IRS extends tax due date for individuals to May 17

So, far, Ohio individual tax date remains April 15

The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced on March 17 that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021.

Ohio tax date remains unchanged: While certain tax deadlines were extended for 2020, currently all Ohio tax return filings and payment due dates remain unchanged for 2021. Should this change, the Icon will announce it.
