New COVID-19 test gets green light

FDA approves first COVID-19 test for those without symptoms

This column is provided by the ONU HealthWise Pharmacy.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for a new COVID-19 diagnostic test that can test people who are not showing symptoms.

This test is found under the name LabCorp COVID-19 RT-PCR.

This test was originally given an EUA in early March. It was to test those whose health care providers suspected that they might have COVID-19, and it only tested individual specimens (no sample pooling). But that changed with this new EUA from the FDA.

University remains closed to visitors

Students return to campus Aug. 13-16

The majority of Bluffton University’s residential students will move into residence halls Aug. 13-16 with classes to resume Aug. 17.

Fall semester was moved up two weeks as part of Bluffton’s Protect the Dam plan for returning to campus housing and instruction. The academic calendar change also means in-person classes will end by Thanksgiving break and students will not return to campus until the spring semester begins.

Other health and safety measures outlined in the plan include social distancing, wearing face masks, reducing classroom density and symptom monitoring.

Surprise!

Like clockwork, these lilies surpise us each August. Known appropriately as Surprise Lilies because they seem to suddenly appear, the flowers may be found across Bluffton gardens this week. The lilies in this photo happen to be blooming in the Ada depot park.

Seventh in a series –
More photos at the bottom this story

Summer is a great time to explore the art spread across the Bluffton community – especially for viewers unable to visit art galleries elsewhere in Ohio.

As a weekly series, The Icon will feature the art created by John Peter Klassen (1888-1975), a long-time Bluffton College art professor, and art by other artists in the community.

For some viewers, this series is familiar. For others, it may be a first-time experience.
