Weather summary: Suddenly it's in the 80s

Four of the past six days have had high temperatures in the 80s. The monthly low is 38 on May 6. Guess it's okay to quit worrying about the plants freezing.

Here's the weather summary for the first 12 days of May provided by Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer. The summary is in the attachment at the bottom of this story.

Family-themed events on BFR's June calendar

This summer, BFR is hosting several family-themed events, including two scavenger hunts. The first will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 and the second will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 19.

The goal of these scavenger hunts is to provide a fun activity that will allow entire families to be active. Participants will be provided with both picture and word clues to guide them toward specific items.

Rockport United Methodist Memorial Day service set

Rockport United Methodist Church will hold their annual Memorial Day service on Monday, May 26, 2014.

The service will start at 11 a.m. in the cemetery and will progress to the church. The guest speaker will be Greg Coleman, Pastor of Cairo and Rockport United Methodist Churches.

The church is located at 5505 Rockport Road, Columbus Grove. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Andrew Lee BHS May student of the month

The May Student of the Month at Bluffton High School is 12th grade student Andrew Lee, son of Dennis & Cindy Lee, Bluffton. He has a current GPA of 3.820.

Andrew is a member of Math Club, SADD Club, Spanish Club and Show Choir. He also attends a weekly small group Bible study.

He has been a member of the track team and the football team for the past 4 years. He was captain of the football team, was a 3-year varsity award winner in both football and track and was a scholar-athlete for the past 3 years.

Breakfast music

Lucie Fett, student of Krysti's Music Studio, performed on piano during the breakfast portion of the May 10 chamber breakfast meeting in the town hall. Each month one of Krysti's students performs on keyboard at the event.

Hilty Home, Pandora, recipient of $39,600 safety intervention grant

Hilty Home, Pandora, is the recipient of a $39,600 Safety Intervention Grant check, presented May 12 by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC), according to Jason Cox, Hilty Home administrator.

Steve Buehrer, administrator, CEO of Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, presented the check.

The grant enables Hilty Home to purchase lift systems to protect employees from injury by easing the process of transferring patients.
