Lenten series continues at Trinity Lutheran

The fourth Lenten service in the 2014 series “From Garden to Glory” will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, on Wednesday, March 26 at 7 p.m.  Pastor Jeff Bolwerk will speak on “The Garden of Paradise” based on Revelation 22:1-6 and the Choir will sing  “Lenten Carol.”

A light supper will be served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. by the Sunday Morning Bible Class. Everyone is welcome and the church is handicapped accessible. Please visit: tlcjenera.org for additional information.

Bluffton Presbyterian Church Easter bake sale April 12

Dress up your Easter table with baked goods and more from the Bluffton Presbyterian Church annual Easter bake sale, Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to noon in front of Citizens National Bank.

Items available include sweet breads, rolls, homemade pies, candies, pickled eggs, and other treats.

Proceeds benefit the church's Youth Group mission projects and the BPC Building Restoration Project.

Phonics dance an effective teaching tool, researcher says

Incorporating student chanting and movement into language instruction may help children learn words faster.

An innovative phonics instruction program created by an Ohio first-grade teacher in 1999 compared favorably to a popular, more traditional program in recent research conducted by Dr. Amy Mullins, assistant professor of education at Bluffton University.

Mustard Seed Cafe celebrates first anniversary this weekend

Mustard Seed Café opened for business March 22, 2013 in the old train depot at 562 N. Main St., Bluffton.  After serving thousands of meals and sharing many happy occasions with local and distant guests, the café would like to thank everyone for their enthusiastic support.

A day in the life of a Marbeck Center desk manager

Sometimes, weird things happen when students work at the Marbeck Center desk.

“The weirdest thing that’s happened to me was when someone called about retirement communities around Bluffton,” junior Alexi Parsons, one of the students who works the desk and answer the university phone, said. “I didn’t know what to do, so I looked up retirement communities in Bluffton. I know other workers get strange calls, too.”
