Bluffton's favorite fall event: Fall Festival, Sept. 24

Bluffton’s favorite fall event, the Fall Festival, takes place here Saturday, Sept. 24.

This is the 13th annual Fall Festival, and it offers many family-oriented activities throughout the community, according to Daren Lee of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, who coordinates the festival.

Activities include an antique tractor show, lots of music and food, pony rides, inflatable bounce house, craft show and home expo, farmers’ market, historical exhibits, and horse and wagon rides between Mennonite Memorial Home and downtown.

Serious accident near Mt. Cory closes north and south I-75

Bluffton rescue crews are on the scene of a traffic-stopping accident on Interstate 75. Bluffton sirens were heard around 1:30 p.m.

Both northbound and southbound I-75 is closed at this posting at 2:15 p.m. Southbound is backup up several miles north of Mt. Cory. Northbound is backed up to Beaverdam.

It appears that two semi trucks and at least one car are involved, however more vehicles could also be part of the accident. One semi is off the interstate in a field. Another is off the interstate.

Girls' golf: Koenig fires a 45 in BHS win over Elmwood

Bluffton girls' golfers defeated Elmwood on Aug. 25 at the Bluffton Golf Course by a 197 to 229 score. Alivia Koenig was medalist with a 45. Individual results are in the attachment.

Volleyball: P-G stops Bluffton

Bluffton High School's volleyball team opened its season losing to Pandora-Gilboa 3-1. Match scores follow: 25-19; 20-25; 8-25; 17-25.

Haley Baker and Emily Stratton had the most digs with 10 each. Emily Metzger had the most kills with 12. Emily Metzger and Andie Schmutz had the most blocks with 4 each.

Girls' soccer: BHS lose to always tough O-G in season opener

Bluffton High School girls' soccer season launched with a home meet on Aug. 25 against Ottawa-Glandorf and the visitors left with a 5-0 win.

Varsity game temperatures had cooled only slightly and the weather was still very sticky for soccer. 

A handball in the box gave Ottawa-Glandorf a penalty kick, and they were able to get it past goalie Jadyn Barhorst.  One more goal made it 0-2 at the half. Barhorst returned for the second half, and stopped several more attempts by OG, but the final score was 0-5.

Edna "Peggy" LePine 1923 - 2016

Edna M. "Peggy" LePine, 93, died, Aug. 25, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Peggy was born July 22, 1923, in Tupper Lake, New York, to Vernon and Mildred Proper who preceded her in death.

Peggy drove cars at the Toledo Auto Auction prior to retiring.

Survivors include a daughter, Pam LePine of Beaverdam; a nephew and his family, Larry Jones of Syracuse, New York; and a friend, Ralph Beemer of Beaverdam.

Peggy was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Payrot.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
