Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is getting ready for winter operations and has a hiring event to fill approximately 65 winter seasonal positions available across the region.
The local hiring event is Tuesday, Oct. 13, from noon to 4:30 p.m. at ODOT District 1 district office, 1885 N. McCullough Street, Lima.
Plowing snow is the primary job responsibility for winter seasonal positions, but employees may also be asked to perform other operational duties.

David Franklin Welty, 54, died suddenly at his residence on Sept. 15, 2020. David was born on June 24, 1966, at Bluffton Hospital to Franklin and Bonnie (Radabaugh) Welty.
David was a 1984 graduate of Pandora-Gilboa High School. He was employed as a rural mail carrier for the Pandora Post Office and also worked for Riley Township. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Leipsic. David enjoyed farming, reading and talking with family and friends.
ODOT has a $1.4 million State Route 103 project on its radar

Bluffton officials working with ODOT planners viewed an artist's rendition of what State Route 103 might look like following a 2023 widening project.

The bottom view show SR 103 near County Line Road. The top view shows the road as it approaches Wendy’s Restaurant.
Several observations include:
• a pedestrian path on the south side of the road. It will cross the road in the top view and will connect to the I-75 business district.

The phrase, "It takes a village," takes many forms. One of those is demonstrated by the congregation of First United Methodist Church, directly across from the elementary school. Signs like this one in the church yard serve as a continual reminder of the range of community thoughts and efforts taking place during the covid-19 pandemic.
