I-75 traffic slowed for utility work on Monday

Interstate 75 at Beaverdam, in both directions, will be temporarily stopped for short intervals on Monday, Jan. 20, for the relocation of overhead transmission lines. Work will occur between 9 -11 a.m., but traffic is anticipated to be affected for only 15 minutes while the work occurs. 

Traffic control will be provided by LS Equipment, Inc, Delphos. Work is being performed by American Electric Power (AEP).

Brianna Gillig hits 28 points in win over Earlham

The Bluffton University women's basketball team welcomed Earlham College to Copeland Court on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020. The Beavers picked up another win with a final score of 70-65, improving to 9-5 (3-4 HCAC) while Earlham slipped to 4-10 (3-3 HCAC).

University names vice president for fiscal affairs

Arthur Woodruff graduate of Allen East, Grace College and Indiana Wesleyan

Arthur Woodruff has been appointed as Bluffton University’s vice president for fiscal affairs. Woodruff, who is originally from the Lima area, started his role at Bluffton on Jan. 2.

As a member of the President’s Cabinet and the university’s chief fiscal officer, Woodruff will provide leadership, oversight and stewardship for all aspects of Bluffton's financial resources, as well as oversee business services, human resources and campus facilities and grounds.

Bluffton fire department averaged 1 call every 3 days in 2019

24 more runs last year than in 2018

Bluffton’s fire department experienced 24 more runs in 2019 than the previous year, according to Jon Kinn, fire chief.

The chart at the bottom of this story shows calls by type and by month.

The 2019 department’s runs reached an average of one call every three days. Total calls reached 119 (95 in 2018). 

The highest number of calls were 33 from alarms, followed by 27 miscellaneous calls, which included service calls, power lines down, weather watches, investigations and dispatched with no incident found.

Well deserved!

These well-deserved patches will soon adorn several Bluffton High School athletes' letter jackets. Patches for NWC golf champs and boys' soccer state Division III runners-up arrived today at Bluffton High School. The next photo in this series shows the soccer trophy now on display in the school trophy case.

Riley Creek UMC dedicates addition on Jan. 19

Riley Creek United Methodist Church, 7102 Road 7L, Ottawa, will hold a dedication of a new addition at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, according to Rev. Duane Kemerley, pastor.

A potluck in the new Fellowship Hall precedes the service at noon.
