Bluffton joins United Way of Greater Lima

Local UW has struggled to meet its goal in recent years

The Bluffton-Beaverdam-Richland Townhip United Way, perhaps the smallest United Way in Ohio, will join the United Way of Greater Lima this fall, according to Erin Bukholder, the local board's executive director.

The local United Way has struggled in recent years, failing to meet its annual goal of $26,000.

Larry Mathewson was a past president of Bluffton school board

Lifelong Bluffton resident, retired from Lima Ford plant

Larry L. Mathewson, 88, died June 21, 2020, at Brookdale Senior Living in Bowling Green, Ohio.  Larry was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Ada to the late Dana and Treva (Lewis) Mathewson.  On June 30, 1951 he married Imajean Klass who preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2010.

Local students named to Bluffton’s undergraduate dean’s list

Bluffton University has announced the dean’s list for undergraduate students for the spring 2020 term. Students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher are eligible for the dean’s list. Area students follow:

Jack Laeufer was a graduate of Beaverdam High School

Jackie "Jack" Wayne Laeufer, 87, died June 19, 2020, at his residence.  Jack was born May 30, 1933, in Lima, Ohio to the late Russell and Inez (Skinner) Laeufer. On Sept. 19, 1956, he married Wilma Anderson and she survives.

Suddenly it was 1954

Suddenly it was 1954 on Main Street, Bluffton. Then it became 1937 and eventually bounced up to 1960. From there it wheeled all across the spectrum as members of the Western Buckeye Chapter of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America cruised through town on Saturday with their vehicles. The parade was organized by Dan Groman who helped launch the local chapter earlier this year.

Bluffton’s first class of SLPA graduates ready for graduate school

Originally planning to pursue a career as a sign language interpreter, Alexis Montemarano ’20 was intrigued by Bluffton University’s newly developed speech-language pathology and audiology program as a first-year student.

Now, Montemarano is a member of Bluffton’s first class of SLPA graduates.

This fall, she will pursue a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology at Baldwin Wallace University, serve as a graduate assistant and work on research and funding for special education programs.
