Here's August Pirate scrimmage schedules

Fall 2016 high school athletic contests get underway in August. Here are Bluffton High School scrimmage dates and locations.

Football
Friday, Aug. 12 – Arlington and Marion Local at Marion Local, 5 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 19 – Pandora-Gilboa, 5 p.m.

Volleyball
Tuesday, Aug. 9 – at Wapakoneta, quad scrimmage
Thursday, Aug. 11 – at Crestview
Thursday, Aug. 16 – at Ottoville

Emmanuel UCC ice cream social July 22

Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 8375 Phillips Road, Bluffton, will hold an ice cream social Friday, July 22, at the church from 4 to 7 p.m.

The menu includes chicken or sloppy joes sandwiches, chicken noodles, baked beans, a variety of salads, pies, and cakes, plus ice cream and beverages. Tickets are $8 for adults and children 10 and under $4.

Tommy Tire brings Jungle Island Zoo to Bluffton; customer appreciation day

Tommy Tire of Bluffton will hold a customer appreciation day on Friday, July 22, according to Tom Dotson, owner.

The event, at 319 N. Main St., Bluffton, includes homemade ice cream by Jay Lugibihl plus a visit by animals from Jungle Island Zoo of Delphos.

Events take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

And it's even lower in Ada

It's a beautiful summer day in downtown Bluffton. And, just look at the price of gas: $2.14.9. With prices this high you might consider getting gas in Ada where it's only $2.05.9. (see photo below)

Apollo board considers school bus purchase

Apollo Career Center board of education will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 15, at Apollo.

One of the items on the agenda is to accept a bid from Cardinal Bus for a 72-passenger school bus at $75,178.

Ada-made NFL footballs will have microchips for preseason games

FOLLOW STORY FROM WWW.NLF.COM - According to NFL spokesman Michael Signora, the league will use microchips in footballs during the preseason as part of the next phase of the Next Gen Stats player tracking project.

The footballs are manufactured in Wilson's Ada plant.
