Industry sector partnership grant launches

Part of House Bill 2 signed in Bluffton on Jan. 13

Lt. Governor Jon Husted  has announced the launch of the Industry Sector Partnership grant program, which was funded through the state operating budget.

This program, which was established through House Bill 2 and funded through the state operating budget signed in 2019, invests $5 million in Industry Sector Partnerships over the biennium. The signing of House Bill 2 took place at GROB Systems, Bluffton, by Gov. Mike DeWine, on Jan. 13.

Red Cross blood drive February 6 at Bluffton First Mennonite

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at Bluffton First Mennonite Church on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 1-6 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

To schedule your blood donation appointment, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org, sponsor code “fmenncbl”. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Refreshments, including soup, sandwiches, cookies and beverages are available to all blood donors.

University president Colloquium speaker Jan. 31

Dr. Jane Wood, president of Bluffton University, will share “A Life In Story: The Construction of Personal Narrative,” during a Colloquium presentation at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall. 

During the presentation, President Wood will share how individuals construct the “story” of their lives and how they choose to share it in community.

Digital strategist and entrepreneur to speak at Bluffton University

Alaina Shearer, a seasoned speaker and professional change maker, will share her personal and professional journey toward positive social change at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Yoder Recital Hall. 

In Shearer’s professional journey, she quickly realized after graduation that extreme sexism and gender discrimination were rampant in her chosen industry - broadcast journalism and then, again, in her second career path: advertising. In 2016, Shearer realized this wasn’t sustainable for her future and founded her own company – Women in Digital (now Together Digital).

Senior breakfast Tuesday at 9 a.m. at BFR

Seniors are invited to Bluffton Family Recreation for a 9 a.m. breakfast on the final Tuesday of each month provided by Good Samaritan House, Arlington. This month’s breakfast is Tuesday, Jan. 28.  BFR is located at 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.
