BFR sports and fitness open house Nov. 22

BFR Sports and Fitness will offer an open house on Sunday, Nov. 22
from 1 to 3 p.m. BFR staff will be available to give building tours and
demonstrate fitness center equipment.

BFR offers a variety of memberships, which include used of the fitness
center, indoor track, open gym and arena times, plus discounts on BFR
programs. Adults can choose from one-, three-, or six-year memberships, plus annual memberships are available for families and youth.

Bella Jean Hopkins, stillborn, Nov. 16

Bella Jean Hopkins, stillborn daughter of Ben Hopkins, Sr., and Beverly Setzer of Wapakoneta, Ohio, died at 8:24 a.m., Nov. 16, 2009, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.

Survivors are Ben Hopkins, Sr., and Beverly Setzer, Wapakoneta, a brother, Benjamin Hopkins, Jr., at home; and step sisters Lachen and Hope, Indian Lake, Ohio. She is also survived by numerous other family members.

A private family service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Bluffton.

Saturday is a parade-watcher's dream

It will be a Bluffton parade-watcher's dream on Saturday.

This year's Blaze of Lights parade on Saturday, Nov. 28, will be one of the largest ever to travel Bluffton's Main Street, according to Junior Weihrauch, parade chairperson.

Over 60 are registered. That translates to a 40+ minute parade.

$1,700+ raised; 306 pounds of food collected

Bluffton University's student-led Family and Consumer Science Association (FCSA) held their annual Filling the CUP spaghetti dinner Friday, Nov. 6, at First Mennonite Church.

The donations collected upon admission supported the Churches United Pantry (CUP) located in Lima, Ohio, which serves between 700 and 1,000 residents of Lima each month.

This year's CUP dinner raised more than $1,700 in donations and 306 pounds of food; far surpassing the goal of $1,200 and 150 pounds of food.

Time with Corrie Ten Boom Dec. 1

Susan Sandager will present Time with Corrie Ten Boom, Tuesday, Dec. 1, as part of Bluffton University's weekly Forum series. The presentation will be at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall. Time with Corrie Ten Boom is a drama based on a Christian woman who hid Jews in her home during World War II. The event is free and open to the public.

Friesen conducts drama workshop

Melissa Friesen, associate professor of theatre and communication, will present "Drama Techniques for Classroom and Civic Dialogue: A Participatory Workshop," at 4 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, in Kreider Room in Marbeck Center, as part of Bluffton University's Friday Colloquium Series. The event is free and open to the public. Please note the change in location.
