Bluffton Swim Team wins quad meet with Ada, Botkins and Lehman Catholic

The Bluffton swim team hosted a quad meet with Ada, Botkins and Lehman Catholic on Jan. 15 at the Lima YMCA. 

Landon Armstrong finished with a second place in the 200 meter medley relay, second place in the 200 meter individual medley, second place in the 200 meter freestyle relay, and won the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:12:13.

2020 was record year for EMS calls

573 calls for service • Of those, 378 involved patient transports

2020 was a record year for Bluffton EMS total calls, according to Jan Basinger, EMS chief.

Bluffton EMS had 573 calls for service in 2020, which averaged to 1.57 calls per day. Of those 573 call 378 involved patient transports.

This compares to 2019, which experienced 546 calls and 398 patients transported. The accompanying chart shows the four-year call record.

ODOT reveals CR 99 interchange plans

The preliminary design of a diverging diamond interchange for Interstate 75 and County Road 99 in Findlay, Hancock County. 

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1, the city of Findlay, and the Hancock County Engineer’s Office have chosen a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) for the rehabilitation project at the Interstate 75 and County Road 99 interchange to combat growing congestion at the important economic hub.

The option was one of four presented to the public during a virtual public involvement meeting in August.

Volleyball poll: Beavers picked to land in middle of pack

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced the results of the Spring 2021 Volleyball preseason poll, with Transylvania University slated to repeat as league champions.
 
The Pioneers racked up 95 points in the poll to claim the first-place slot. Hanover College was voted to finish second with 81 points, while Earlham College was picked to finish third, with 75 votes. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (57) and Bluffton University (51) rounded out the top half of the poll in fourth and fifth respectively.
 

BHS sophomores visit Apollo Career Center on Wednesday

Bluffton High School sophomores will be among more than 600 sophomores in Apollo Career Center’s 11-member district visiting Apollo during  411Blast, scheduled Jan. 25-28.

Bluffton students will visit from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27/

The day exposes students to possibilities and paths available for their career and, or college success. Students choose two programs of interest and then spend one-half day visiting those labs, meeting the instructors and participating in fun, interactive demos and activities.
