First garter snake of the year

Can you see it? A young garter snake watches the Icon's photographer as it slides through the leaves near Little Riley Creek. About 15 inches long, this location along Campus Drive is a spot where several members of this family hang out during the summer.

Correction to previous announcement

The Icon was in error in its April community meal announcement of yesterday.

There is only one community meal in April. It is Thursday, April 15, at 6 p.m., served from the rear of the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

Baseball Beavers pound Franklin 15-5

The Bluffton University baseball team played like it was sunny and 70 on Sunday, March 28. Bluffton hammered Franklin 15-5 in six and a half innings in game one before the visiting Grizzlies earned a split with a 9-1 victory in the nightcap. The Beavers moved to 3-11 on the season and in the HCAC while Franklin stands at 7-5 on both accounts.

Rockets sweep Pirates in opener

BLUFFTON - The host Buffton baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Pandora-Gilboa in a season-opening twinbill Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates fell to 0-2 with the defeats, while P-G starts out 2-0. 

Rocket hurler Eric Gerschutz pitched a three-hitter in the opener as P-G broke the game open with a five-run second inning.

In the nightcap, Drew Miller struck out 11 Pirates in five innings as three Rocket pitchers combined to pitch a one-hitter.

Ironman winners

Last week Bluffton High School freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors competed against each other in its annual Ironman competition. The student senate sponors the annual event. The junior class won that leg of the competition. On Friday,  the junior class competed against the Bluffton school staff in the finals. The school staff was the winner. Jamie Nygaard shares this photo of the winners with Icon viewers.
