Soccer: Bluffton girls shut out by Bearcats

Defending NWC champion Spencerville scored in the eighth minute and took a 1-0 lead to intermission

SPENCERVILLE - The Bluffton girls soccer team lost a tough Northwest Conference defensive battle at Spencerville Thursday evening, 2-0.

Defending NWC champion Spencerville scored early in the eighth minute and took a 1-0 lead to intermission.

After more than 70 minutes of scoreless play, the Bearcats then added a goal in the final minute to snap a four-match Bluffton win streak.

BHS hosts college financial aid meeting Sept. 23

The Bluffton High School guidance office will hold a financial aid meeting for parents and students of juniors and seniors planning to continue their education beyond high school.

The meeting is in the high school library, at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23. Lawrence Matthews, Director of Financial Aid at Bluffton University is the speaker. He will discuss financial aid and filing the FAFSA form.

She shared strategic planning initiatives shaping the next five to 10 years at Bluffton, and a looked at what the future holds for graduates

President Jane Wood is looking to the future, both in the academic development of the student body at Bluffton University and in the overall health of the northwest Ohio region.

Wood shared her vision and top initiatives for the university before a packed crowd of students, faculty, staff and community members during a State of the University address on Sept. 10 in Yoder Recital Hall.

Bluffton high-rise

Four-year-olds are builders, as most parents know. The Icon's visit to the Community Preschool today confirmed that. This team of three architects tested engineering construction models in a proposed Bluffton high-rise when the photo was taken.

Dr. Mushtaq Ashraf joins Hematology & Oncology Associates

Mushtaq Ashraf, MD, has joined the medical team of Hematology & Oncology Associates, part of Blanchard Valley Medical Practices. Dr. Ashraf will see patients at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center located at 15900 Medical Dr. South, Findlay.

Dr. Ashraf received his medical degree from the University of Karachi’s Dow Medical College. He then completed his internal medicine residency at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and his medical oncology fellowship at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

Storyteller/musician performs Saturday at The Quarry Farm

Rural Pandora event includes vegetarian and vegan feast

The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve & Conservation Farm, rural Pandora, hosts an evening of music in the gardens on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. 

Russ Gibson, a veteran performer, will strike a common chord with his storytelling, vocals and guitar performed for listeners of all ages.

Alongside the music, a vegetarian and vegan feast will be available, prepared by Steven Coburn-Griffis.
