Meet Bluffton's new postmaster

Jared Caprella of Lima, is Bluffton's new postmaster. His position officially started on June 22, however, he has been officer in charge (OIC) here since February.

Caprella, a 2007 Bath High School graduate, started his postal career as a carrier in Boulder, Colo., in 2012. The next year he transferred to Lima as a carrier. In 2014 he became a management supervisor.

The new postmaster is a 2011 Ohio State University graduate with a degree in health science management and a minor in business.

Seniors hear about technology in the police force July 8

Bluffton police chief guest speaker at senior citizen July dinner meeting

Ryan Burkholder, Bluffton police chief, will discuss technology in the police force during the Monday, July 8, Bluffton Senior Citizens Association 6 p.m. dinner.

The dinner is $8 and reservation are due by Wednesday, July 3. Luke’s Bar and Grill will cater the dinner.

Several members celebrate their 90th birthday in July and they will received a life membership in the association at the meeting. Those persons are Coleen Hight, Ida Dunlap, Bernard Baumgartner, RosaLee Greenway and Martha Unruh.

Free VIP showing of "Toy Story 4" Saturday at Shannon Theatre

A free VIP showing of Disney’s “Toy Story 4” takes place Saturday, June 29, at  10 a.m. at the Shannon Theatre.

The showing is sponsored by Magical Moments Vacations, Findlay.

“Are you an educator, first responder, firefighter, in law enforcement, a military family or work in health care? We wish to say ‘thank you’ for our local heroes,” said Jen Kistler of Magical Moments.

“The only requirement to see this free showing is to obtain a validated registration to ensure everyone has a seat,” she said.

Red Cross responds to Monday evening Mt. Cory fire

The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter responded to a fire on County Road 37 in Mt. Cory on Monday evening.

The Red Cross provided assistance for the immediate needs of those affected, such as temporary lodging, food and clothing.

“We’re deeply saddened for those who were impacted by this fire,” said Todd James, Executive Director, North Central Ohio Chapter.

“As we continue to help them, we urge everyone to take steps to minimize the risk of a fire occurring in their home.”

Free outdoor gospel concert, with chicken BBQ, at County Line Church on July 13

County Line Church of the Brethren is hosting a Freedom Fest on Saturday, July 13, from noon to 6 p.m., including a chicken barbecue and free music.

Bring your own seating for this free outdoor gospel concert, geared towards the whole family, including a free bouncy house to keep children entertained. 

The concert will be behind the church, located at 4227 N Hardin Road, (Hancock County Road 15 from Bluffton), Harrod.
