Bluffton University posts Ohio University poet

Becca J.R. Lachman, a poet and a faculty member at Ohio University, will read from her work at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Musselman Library Reading Room at Bluffton University. The event, beginning with refreshments at 3:45 p.m., is free and open to the public.

A Mennonite from eastern Ohio, Lachman is the author of the 2012 book of poems, “The Apple Speaks,” and editor of the recent anthology, “A Ritual to Read Together: Poems in Conversation with William Stafford.” She also writes the blog, “Confessions of a Tattooed Mennonite.”

Celebration of Life for Michael Augsburger Nov. 16

A Celebration of Life Service has been scheduled for Michael K. Augsburger to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Bluffton Town Hall, 154 N. Main St., Bluffton. 

The family will receive friends following the service until 4:30 p.m. at the town hall where light refreshments and desserts will be provided. 

Arrangements have been entrusted with Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Doris Bucher was a Triplett Corp. retiree

Doris J. Bucher, 81 died Nov. 8, 2013, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born Sept. 7, 1932 in Benton Ridge to the late Clifford and Lois (Reiter) Niswander. On October 3, 1954 she married Charles Bucher and he died August 2, 2005.

She retired from Triplett Corporation, Bluffton. She was a member of English Lutheran Church, Bluffton. She was a graduate of Cory-Rawson High School.

Downtown Bluffton is the place to be on Saturday - holiday open house

Several downtown Bluffton businesses invite Icon viewers to a Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9, Christmas open house.

Many businesses are participating in the event. Each has several special offers. Included in the open house are:

• Town and Country Flowers, 121 S. Main St.
Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A special coupon, which is a printer-friendly attachment at the bottom of this story provides $5 off a $30 purchase. The coupon is good through Dec. 31, 2013.
