Millsaps to speak at Spiritual Life Week forum Oct. 27

Cyneatha Millsaps, lead pastor at Community Mennonite Church in Markham, Ill., will discuss “Living and Trusting the Word of God” in Bluffton University’s Spiritual Life Week forum on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Millsaps, also the multicultural liaison for the Illinois Mennonite Conference, will speak at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall, telling how a group of young Mennonites made a difference in her neighborhood after moving there. The presentation is free and open to the public.

I'm beginning to read McCullough's "The Wright Brothers," and Lois and I preparing to celebrate our 70th anniversary.

I have been reflecting gratefully on a sense of place: Bluffton, a town embraced by two streams - the Big Riley Creek and the Little Riley.

Take a hike Saturday at 9 at Motter Metro Park

Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District wants you to take a Bluffton hike.

Your invitation is at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at Motter Metro Park, Columbus Grove Road, Bluffton.

“The hike starts at 9 a.m. last approximately 1 1⁄2 to 2 hours on easy to moderate terrain,” Bob Antibus of Bluffton and park district board member, said.

3/50 Program returns - shop local and win prizes!

Shop downtown Bluffton this fall and have a chance to win – gift cards and prizes from local merchants.

Recently nearly 2,500 Bluffton postal customers received a post card inviting them to “shop, sip, eat, play, local.” In a nutshell its message encourages shopping locally.

The postcard makes area residents aware of a Bluffton merchants and Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce major fall promotion. It centers on a concept titled “3/50 Project.” The nationwide project carries the tagline: “Save your local economy three stores at a time.”

Season for corn

You've heard the rumble of trailers coming to Bluffton - heading to the mill. You've witnessed the "dust" created in the rural community as the corn harvest continues. Here's a typical corn harvest scene. This one is from the northwest corner of Columbus Grove Road and State Route 696.

Jim Boedicker will play one more time on Saturday

Three more Bluffton Saturday farmers' markets and then good bye for the season.

Jim Boedicker, popular musican at the market, will perform on Saturday, Oct. 17. The market is open in the Citizens National Bank parking lot from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
