Friday morning chamber focus addresses how to promote the community

How would you promote Bluffton?

That question is the theme of the Friday morning Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting. The meeting topic is “Promotion Potluck.”

The Zoom session will focus on promotion ideas, outside of the village and inside the village according to Paula Scott, chamber CEO.

Members may join the meeting by 7:20 a.m. Persons may contact Scott for the Zoom link. Contact her at [email protected].

The discussion will include responses from recent chamber survey.

Karen Kiene was a Bluffton HS graduate

Worked at Metakote, Lima, for 13 years

Karen Lee Kiene, 60, died Feb. 10, 2021, at her residence in Bluffton. Karen was born March 28, 1960 in Bluffton to the late Laverne and Sarah (Wenger) Moser. On Aug. 5, 2002, she married Gregory Kiene who preceded her in death on March 9, 2018.

Karen graduated from Bluffton High School. She had worked at Metakote in Lima for 13 years. She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ - Bluffton.

BCE hosts Zoom program on book self publishing

Fred Steiner will lead a discussion on "Making It A Book" on Feb. 25

Bluffton author Fred Steiner will lead a discussion on “Making It a Book” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in an online program hosted by the Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs (BCE).

Steiner will walk through the process of self publishing from manuscript to printed copies. After a 30-minute interview is recorded for YouTube, Steiner will take questions from online guests.

• Diller is an Americanized spelling of Thüler

Many Swiss pioneers came to America on the ship Boston in 1824. Including brothers John and Peter, and their widowed mother, Maria Zimmerly Thüler. Their father, Johannes, died in Florimont France on Aug. 7, 1813.

The three of them first settled in Paint Township, Holmes County, Ohio.

Alice DeVier was the psychiatrist, banker, warden, maker of popcorn and funeral director

Alice DeVier played a significant role with the kids in our North Lawn Avenue-Jackson Street neighborhood in the 1950s and 1960s.

These included families with last names of DeVier, Steiner, Wilch, Augsburger, Westrick and Amstutz.

Jefferson Street Phase II project bid awarded

Lower bidder from Monroeville award project at $813,882

On Monday, Bluffton council awarded a contract for its Jefferson Street Phase II project, following a second bidding of the project.

The Monday council packet is attached at the bottom of this story -

Council awarded a contract to Underground Utilities, Inc., of Monroeville, the low bidder at $813,882.50. Legislation passed by emergency so that the project can stay on schedule. 

Phase II was originally scheduled for 2020 but was put off one year due to state funding issues related to covid-19.
