Buffton alum is a PULSE fellow

Timothy Bender, Bluffton University alum, is one of 33  incoming PULSE fellows with Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience, a non-profit organization, in Pittsburgh, Penna.

Bender  received his degree in History, Bible and Theology from Bluffton University. During his time at Bluffton, he studied Spanish in Guatemala for a semester and designed and carried out an individualized Summer Discovery Grant.

He also served with Bluffton University’s Campus Ministries program and was on the Cabaret for a Cause Planning Committee. 

Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference unveils new visual identity

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) unveiled a bold, revitalized visual identity on Monday. The comprehensive redesign includes distinct primary and secondary logos, a complete suite of sport-specific and championship marks, and an exclusive custom font. 

The HCAC partnered with Skye Design Studios (SDS - www.sdsbranding.com) – a national leader in sport branding – for the project. The HCAC and SDS engaged partners from all 10 member campuses throughout the rebranding initiative.

Tyson Goings appointed to new role at university

Director of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)

As part of the launch of Bluffton University’s strategic plan this fall, President Jane Wood has appointed Tyson Goings to the newly created role of director of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). 

Goings, a 2001 Bluffton graduate, returned in 2015 as director of multicultural student development and was promoted to director of residence life in 2019. He will maintain his current role as director of residence life, with some responsibilities transitioning to other employees in Bluffton’s student life office.  

Swiss Historical Society continues with online programming

Fall festival activities at Schumacher homestead on hold

For the safety of docents and visitors, the Swiss Community Historical Society has put programming on hold including August Saturday open houses at the Schumacher Homestead and the annual Fall Festival.

Currently, society members and local history buffs are sharing photos and genealogy tips on the Swiss Community Historical Society Facebook.

This is a two-page spread photo from the 1966 Bluffton High School yearbook. The scene is in the old auditorium and the audience might be applauding for a class play. Several students and parents of students are in the audience.
