James Ream worked at Phillips Corp

James Allen Ream, 70, died June 7, 2019, at his residence in Lima.  Jim was born Dec. 29, 1948 in Bluffton to the late Claude and Marcine (Ingalls) Ream who preceded him in death. On Feb. 23, 1969 he married Linda Williams Ream who survives.

Jim worked at Phillips Corporation in Ottawa was a member of High Street Freewill Baptist Church in Ada.

Weekend doctor: Colon cancer screenings

Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in men and women in the United States.

According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated there will be over 101,420 new cases of colon cancer and 44,180 new cases of rectal cancer in 2019.

The overall lifetime risk for development of colon cancer is about 1 in 22 for men and 1 in 24 for women.

The Western Ohio Interurban Line opened through Bluffton on January 10, 1906, when the first passenger car stopped and the president of the line, Mr. F. D. Carpenter gave a short talk.

Official Ride to Remember shirts available

Liz and Raymond Harner of Bike Crazy model the first-ever official shirts for Bluffton's Ride to Remember. The bike ride, which promotes and builds more bike paths in Bluffton, is Saturday, July 20. The high-quality shirts are available at Bike Crazy, 127 N. Main St. The shirts are $20 each and proceeds after expenses support the bike path program. The next photo shows a closeup of the shirt.

Sunday marks the 75th year of a Bluffton institution - the trout derby

Sunday is the 75th anniversary Bluffton Sportsmen's Club trout derby. Eugene Benroth once said that the derby, which he played a huge part of promoting, was started during World War II as a way to bring the community together during a trying time.
