Section: 

“Messiah” rehearsals begin at Bluffton University

Tuesday evenings in Gilliom Room

Rehearsals for Bluffton University’s 124th performance of Handel’s “Messiah” will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays each week from Sept. 24-Dec. 3 in the Gilliom Room of Mosiman Hall on campus.

There are a total of 10 rehearsals, one dress rehearsal and one concert.

Anyone interested in singing, from high school students to adults, is invited to join the chorus, which includes Bluffton students, faculty, staff and community members. There is no cost to participate.

Girls' tennis: With third straight win, Lady Pirates improve to 6-4

WAUSEON - The visiting Bluffton girls tennis team whipped Wauseon 4-1 Thursday evening.

With their third straight win, the Lady Pirates improved to 6-4.

Senior Erin Hotmire won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles to lift her record to 8-2 this season.

Olivia Barnes registered a straight sets victory at second singles by a 7-5, 6-2 count. Ellison Pugsley was victorious at third singles 6-1, 6-4.

Ellie Nickel and Libby Frazier also triumphed at second doubles 6-1, 6-1.

Volleyball: Pirates stop Cory-Rawson in three sets, move to 4-2 overall

Skyler Scoles served up four aces

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton swept non-league local rival Cory-Rawson Thursday evening in volleyball action.

The Lady Pirates improved to 4-2 with the 25-18, 25-9, 25-9 victory.

Kylie Stackhouse knocked down 16 kills and made one block to lead the victors. Taylor Schwab hammered 11 kills, served two aces and came up with 16 digs.

Kylie Monday mustered up 21 digs. Skyler Scoles served up four aces, and Haelyn Bischoff made one block.

The Pirate reserves also won, 2-1.

Bluffton hosts non-conference foe Elida Sept. 9.

Mornings with Mommy begins this month in Jenera

Mornings with Mommy, educational play-dates, begin Monday, Sept. 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jenera.

These play-dates are for infants through preschool age children (ages 0-5 years) and an opportunity to meet other moms (or caregivers). These dates continue on the first and third Mondays and Tuesdays of each month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church, 301 N. Main St., Jenera.

Ronda Lehman named president of Mercy Health, Lima market

Ohio Northern University alum and ONU faculty adjunct Ronda Lehman was named president of Mercy Health's Lima market. Lehman served as president of the Mercy Health — St. Rita’s Medical Center since March 2019.

Lehman will oversee operations, quality, service and growth goals for the Lima market, which includes Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center and the various outpatient services.

Her collaborative leadership style and commitment to operational excellence will continue to advance growth in the Lima market. Her appointment was effective Sept. 1.
