Circle K robber caught on video - happened early Tuesday AM

Bluffton police filed this report this morning to the Icon concerning a robbery at Circle K on Commerce Lane.

Police encourage anyone with information to contact police department at 419-358-2961.​

On Tuesday, April 5, at approximately 4:48 a.m., the Circle K store located on Commerce Lane in Bluffton, Hancock County, was robbed by a white male with a firearm.

Gallery for the Arts in Ada has weekend open house

There's a weekend open house in Ada and you are invited.

Gallery for the Arts, 115 S. Main St., will hold an open house from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 8, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 9. The Gallery features original works by Ada artists and artisans.

Visitors will be served wine and munchies on Friday. On Saturday will be coffee, juice and breads. In addition a collection of Gallery items will be raffled.

When Ruth Roiter opened the gallery she described its purpose this way: “I set the stage. The artists are the performers.”

Four university groups perform in April pops concert

Four Bluffton University musical ensembles will come together Friday, April 22, to present the annual Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Yoder Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
 
Providing instrumental music will be the university’s Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band, both conducted by Dr. Roy Couch, assistant professor of music.
 
Dr. Mark J. Suderman, professor of music, conducts both performing choral groups, Camerata Singers and the University Chorale. Accompanying the Chorale’s performance will be Ana Yoder Coulter on piano.

Bluffton's big bird

It's not Big Bird, but it is a big bird for Bluffton. The great blue heron frequents Riley Creek, as these three photos demonstrate. Mary P. Steiner took these photos with her cell phone as one of the herons took to flight near Spring Street. The largest of the herons can have wing spaces of up to six feet and can cruise at 20 miles per hour.

These kids grew up in the Great Depression

Here's the Bluffton High School class of 1951 as sophomores - taken during the 1948-49 school year. They were born in the early 1930s and experienced the Great Depression as youngsters.
