Carpe Diem

We've stretched the Latin phrase Carpe Diem to this carp that seized the day by successfully finding its way from the Buckeye overflow back to the big pond. The carp was in the very shallow waters in the Buckeye park, which experienced an overflow on Tuesday. By Wednesday as the waters receded, the carp realized its problem. It easily measured 18 inches and made quite a spash on its journey, as the photos in this series demonstrate.

Tim Falk was a 1975 Bluffton High School graduate

Was a sheer operator at Clymer Enterprise

Timothy Lynn Falk, 63, pdied May 20, 2020 at Bluffton Hospital. Tim was born April 30, 1957, in Bluffton to Dean and Carol (Mathewson) Falk.  On Oct. 5, 1991, he married Joyce Hartman Falk.  

Tim was a 1975 graduate of Bluffton High School. He was a sheer operator at Clymer Enterprises in Pandora and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and his dogs and cats.

40th annual Academic Awards Program on May 15

Students were recognized for their academic achievements in the 40th annual Bluffton High School academic awards program held virtually on May 15.

Students recognized were those receiving 
• College scholarships  
• Various scholarship recognition
• Community-based scholarships
• Athletic awards
• Math team and math competitions
• National Latin exam
• Presentations by 21 teacher listing special class awards

Bluffton student-athletes All-Academic HCAC

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) has announced the spring honorees for Tom Bohlsen Academic All-HCAC. Bluffton student-athletes are listed at the bottom of this story.

Academic All-Conference selections have at least a cumulative 3.5 GPA and are varsity athletes. 

Today's BHS seniors in the spotlight

Here's today's installment of the Bluffton High School Class of 2020 Senior Spotlight. Each weekday until the end of May the Icon will feature photos and future plans for four BHS seniors.  Students will be featured in a four-set random order.

Clean up week ends at 4 p.m. today

Bluffton's annual clean-up week ends at 4 p.m. today, Thursday, May 21.Dumpsters are in place at the Bluffton recycle center on Spring Street.

The following items are not accepted:
• Hazardous material (motor oil, paint, etc.)
• vehicle batteries
• Tires
• Appliances that use Freon (refrigerators, unless these are certified that Freon is legally removed and disposed of properly)

The dumpsters are for residents of the village only. Persons dumping items may be randomly asked to verify that they are residents.
