Suter's corn maze opens Saturday

Just when you think they run out of ideas, the Suter corn maze opens with something so complex you wonder if you could ever escape.

The corn maze and Morning Star Cider Press are located at 8250 Road R, Pandora.

Suter's 2016 corn maze theme is "Twists and Turns in Transportation." That means there's a:
• Steam locomotive
• Ocean liner
• Race car
• Semi-truck
• Helicopter
• Jet
• and, yes that's blimp in the top left-hand corner.

The Quarry Farm 5K Run/Walk Oct. 1

The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve & Conservation Farm, Pandora, is holding the first Quarry Farm 5K Run/Walk event on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. Check-in is from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.The race will be held rain or shine.

Meet Bluffton's First Lady of football

Jane Richards is mom to the head coach and wife to a volunteer assistant

Jane Richards is a pretty good sport.

She has to be.

Her son, Jeff, is head football coach at Bluffton High School. Her husband, Mike, is a volunteer coach on his son, Jeff’s coaching staff.

In a chat with Jane on Thursday at Common Grounds, the Icon learned a lot about being the mother and wife of football coaches.

For starters, her position is a lifetime career.

“I’m the stable one. Mike moved around in his coaching career,” she laughs.

Jane taught art at Cory-Rawson for over 30 years.

Hydrangea subject of Oct. 4 garden meeting

Hydrangea is the subject of a 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, meeting of the Gardeners of Bluffton/Pandora Area. The meeting is in the Bluffton Public Library and is open to the public.

  Allen County Master Gardener Volunteer Tim Staley, will discuss how to successfully grow, propagate, prune and over winter Hydrangea’s. He will also talk about why some blue hydrangeas turn pink, when planted in our area and the difference between a Mophead, a Lacecap, an Oakleaf and a Pee Gee bloom.

Erika Zimmerman 1938 - 2016

Erika Zimmerman, 78, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died on Sept. 11, 2016. She was born on May 31, 1938, in East Prussia, Germany, to Heinrich and Johanna (Froehner) Tetzlaff.

Erika immigrated to the U.S. in1952 after World War II and her family settled in Minneapolis. While she attended Ft. Wayne Bible College, she met her husband Dr. Donald “Don” L. Zimmerman, they eventually married on June 8, 1963, in Bluffton.

Men's Soccer drops 2-0 decision at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -A pair of Otterbein tallies in the first half marked the only scoring in a 2-0 victory by the Cardinals on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016. Bluffton saw its record slip to 2-2, while Otterbein improved to 4-2 on the young season.
