Bluffton Farmers Market opens Saturday

New safety guidelines in effect

The Bluffton Farmers Market will open on Saturday, May 2, with new safety guidelines. Vendors, customers and market management will work together to limit the potential transmission of the coronavirus. Some 12-14 vendors are expected on opening day.

"The Bluffton Farmers Market will be different in 2020. We will have the same great products and vendors, but we all need to modify our behavior to protect ourselves and each other from the risk of serious illness," explains Paula Scott, CEO of the chamber. "We have many new safety guidelines."

Drive-up, drop-off food drive this weekend

Sponsored by Pandora United Methodist and Riley Creek UMC

Riley Creek United Methodist Church, 7102 Road M, Ottawa, will conduct a drive-up, drop-off food drive on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Pandora United Methodist Church, 108 E Washington St., Pandora, will hold a drive the previous evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Drivers will not need to leave their vehicles. Volunteers will collect what the items and put them on a truck for delivery to the food pantries.

Bluffton University students honored for academic excellence

33 seniors were honored as distinguished scholars

Bluffton University is recognizing many of its top students for their academic achievements.

Thirty-three seniors were honored as distinguished scholars in their respective academic areas.

Five seniors were recognized for completion of the Honors Program. They are: Aubrey Bartel, of Newton, Kan.; Timothy Bender, of Wellman, Iowa; Alexis Cash, of Gaines, Mich.; Lydia Lugibihl, of Pandora, Ohio; and Michelle Swartley, of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Here's the Bluffton council committee meeting schedule

The following Bluffton council meetings and committee meetings are set, according to Kevin Nickel, village fiscal officer.

 All meetings will be held using Zoom video conferencing. Those interested in attending should contact Jesse Blackburn at [email protected] to request an invitation. 

Ordinance Committee – Wednesday, 4/29 at 5 p.m.
Utilities Committee – Thursday, 4/30 at 3p.m.
Personnel Committee – Friday, 5/1 at noon
Council Meeting – Monday, 5/11 at 7 p.m.

Taking it to the streets

That grinding sound you hear in Bluffton means that the 2020 street program is underway. Bluffton Stone Co. employees began working on Tuesday morning, first grinding Campus Drive, in this photo. Several additional street projects join the list soon.

Ministerial association prayer event Friday

For MMH friends and family and for Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio employees and volunteers

The Bluffton Area Ministerial Association and its ministerial partners will conduct a time of prayer and meditation for friends and family at the Mennonite Memorial Home and for the Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio employees and volunteers later this week.

The event, open to the public, takes place at 11 a.m., Friday, May 1, in the parking lot of The Centre, 601 N. Main St., Bluffton.
