Beavers stop Manchester again

The Bluffton University women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday, Nov. 14, welcoming Manchester University for the second time in three days.

Bluffton used a 22-16 spread in the fourth quarter to pull out the 54-46 victory. Manchester fell to 0-3, while the home team stands 2-0 on the season.

For the second straight game, sophomore Ella Zaborowski (Toledo/Christian) got the Beavers on the scoreboard first with her jumper in the paint. Points were hard to come by in the first stanza as Manchester led 10-8 after the first 10 minutes.

Historic vehicles, historic tour

The Western Buckeye Region, Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, held its sixth and final driving tour this past weekend, according to Dan Groman.

Guest speaker at Trinity Lutheran Church

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, will host a guest speaker on Sunday, Nov. 22.  Pastor James Mattek of Christian Family Solutions, Germantown, Wisconsin, will speak at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services and lead the Bible Class at 9:30 a.m.

Pirate girls open hoop season with tourney

Bluffton will once again host the annual McDonald's Holiday Tournament to tip off the girls basketball season this weekend.

The Lady Pirates will host local non-league rival Cory-Rawson in the second semifinal Friday night, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. That contest will be preceded by the opener at 5:30 p.m. between Allen East and defending tourney champion Arlington.

Nov. 19 community meal canceled

The community meal scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19 has been canceled. With the high number of COVID cases in the area, it was decided that it was unsafe for the volunteers to be working so closely together to prepare the meal, according to Tonya Meyer of the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.
