On civil discourse

It is important to humbly remember that our opinions are not universal truth

By Amelia Alexander
This morning I went downstairs and made my breakfast smoothie like I do every day. I sit down and eat breakfast with my parents on the weekends because we do not usually have anywhere to rush off to.

We talk about our plans for the day, or whatever is on our hearts. Sometimes, we immerse ourselves in some of the most high-minded conversations of my life. We talk about religion, philosophy, politics, celebrities, etc. There aren’t really any limits when it comes to our discourse.

Main Street mid-1940s

This is Main Street Bluffton in the mid-1940s.

There is a 1938 Chevy parked in from of the A and P. There is a newer Chrysler product, probably a 1945-46 model also in the photo. Plus, there's no Shannon Theatre – it wasn't built yet.

Lots of other things to notice:
• Gas pump on the far left side of the photo
• The Charles Company where Citizens National Bank is today
• One stoplight at the Cherry-Main intersection
• Notice the street lamps
• Notice the condition of the sidewalks

ODOT ready for several inches of predicted snowfall

We anticipate this weather system to produce a consistent snowfall over a long period which will keep us on 12-hour shifts for an extended time

ODOT is preparing for what may be the most significant snowfall of the year which is expected to begin late Sunday or early Monday and continue into Tuesday.

"We anticipate this weather system to produce a consistent snowfall over a long period which will keep us on 12-hour shifts for an extended time," said Rod Nuveman, ODOT District 1 highway management administrator, based in Lima.

"We also expect reduced visibility. This snow is predicted to be dry so the accompanying winds of up to 25 miles per hour at times will factor in," he said.
