Bluffton boys advance to district finals

Tonight's game cancelled; Ada quarantined players, game forfeited

Bluffton High School boys' soccer game originally scheduled for tonight is cancelled, according to Alex Hanna, athletic director.

 "This game has been cancelled. Ada had to quarantine a few players and forfeited our game," he told the Icon.

Bluffton will play at 11 a.m., Saturday Oct. 31, at Tiffin Columbian High School against the winner of Van Buren and Riverdale, which is tonight.

BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton girls soccer team broke a 2-2 tie and went on to defeat Ashland Crestview 4-2 in Div. III district semifinal action on a wet and chilly Tuesday night at Steinmetz Field.

The Pirate girls improved to 15-2-1 with their 14th straight victory. The second-seeded Lady Pirates advanced to the district finals where they will take on top seed Liberty-Benton in Bluffton Saturday, Oct. 31, at 4 p.m.

Just like last year

It's official: state soccer championship games hosted at Mapre Stadium

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has finalized details for several upcoming state tournaments, including  soccer.

In partnership with the Columbus Crew SC, the OHSAA girls and boys soccer state championship games will once again be hosted at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus.

The girls finals will be Friday, Nov. 13, followed by the boys finals on Saturday, Nov. 14. The OHSAA applauds the Crew SC for working with the OHSAA to make it possible for the finals to remain at MAPFRE Stadium, where they have been since 1999.

Jefferson Street phase II scheduled for 2021

Work will cover the street from the railroad to the County Line Road

Jefferson Street phase II is back.

Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, provided Bluffton council members with a 2021 timeline for the project originally scheduled for the spring of 2020. The one-year delay was due to state funding issues related to covid-19.

Blackburn said that the estimated bid date for the project will be in November. Bids will be awarded in December or January. 

Sanitary and storm improvements will begin in March and roadway construction is set for April with a completion date of June.

Thursday’s Bluffton trick-or-treat has a different feel from past years.  Bluffton’s trick-or-treat hours are 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday. Here are some updates.

While a contagious covid-19 is the real scary threat this year, creativity is at work.

A “residential reverse trick-or-treat” is planned from 5:30 to 6 p.m., before the village’s Halloween hours get underway. This is planned outside the retirement communities at Mennonite Home, Willow Ridge and Maple Crest.
