Book signing by ONU professor Monday at the Ada Public Library

Scott Douglas Gerber, law professor at Ohio Northern University, will discuss his latest novel, “The Art of The Law,” at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at the Ada Public Library.

Topic of the presentation will be, “Why a law professor writes fiction.”  The program is free and open to the public.

While in law school, Gerber read some novels by Attorney John Grisham (legal mysteries).  He liked the genre and thought he’d give novel writing a try.

Introducing this year's J. Denny and Jenny Beavers

One of the most tightly guarded secrets at Bluffton University is the identities of J. Denny and Jenny Beaver. 

Even the closest of friends, roommates and family members of the students who portray Bluffton’s mascots may have no idea who is actually in the suit. 

However, another generation of Beavers have concluded their mascot mission and are prepared to tuck away their tails for the next group of eager Beavers. Here are the newly identified Beavers, revealed on Saturday.

Elementary PTO invites families to "science night"

Lots of free hands-on science activities on Friday

The Bluffton PTO invites families to elementary science night from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at the elementary school gym and cafeteria.

Lots of free hands-on science activities are part of the evening. In addition to lava lamps, there are stations to test how fast you can throw objects of different weights using a radar gun.

Other activities include building foil boats and test how much weight they can hold, make ice cream, explore ONU’s mobile health clinic and make a water filter and then filter dirty water.

Cory-Rawson artists

Cory-Rawson HS art students this month have works on display on the second floor of Mennonite Memorial Home. This photo series shares a selection of those works. This piece is by Jenison Davidson, a sophomore. Other artists in this series include Averie Elchert, sophomore and Mackenzie Cascaden, junior.

University faculty piano recital Feb. 27

Bluffton University’s newest music department member will perform a recital at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27,  in Yoder Recital Hall.

Dr. Da Eun Choi, staff accompanist and piano instructor, will perform solo piano pieces as part of Bluffton’s Thursdays at Yoder program. Choi earned her DMA from the University of Texas at Austin. 

She will perform demanding and difficult keyboard works, including: Wanderer Fantasy in C major, D. 760 by Franz Schubert, Gaspard de la nuit by Maurice Ravel and Danse Macabre, Op. 40/S. 555 by Camille Saint-Saëns (Arr. Franz Liszt).
