University women open season with 62-49 win

The Bluffton University women's basketball team opened up its season at home on Nov. 11, against Alma College.

Despite a two-hour delay due to a severe snowstorm that kept Alma on the road for over seven hours, the Beavers were able to pull off a 62-49 victory over the Scots. With the victory, Bluffton starts its season out at 1-0, while Alma is 0-1.

Tickets available for Saturday purse Bingo in Ada

The Public Interest Law Association and the Office of Career and Professional Development at ONU’s Pettit College of Law has tickets for a Saturday, Nov. 16, Purse Bingo evening.

The event is at Center on Central, 111 Central Ave., Ada. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with Bingo from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

This is a fundraiser. All proceeds go to a scholarship fund for ONU law students who work unpaid public interest jobs during the summer. 

The scholarships allow students to work in the public interest sphere while maintaining summer living expenses.

Dave Essinger leads introduction to non-fiction writing workshop Nov. 14

Dave Essinger, Bluffton resident and associate professor of English at the University of Findlay, will lead a workshop on "Intro to non-fiction writing," at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts,  Findlay.

It's only Nov. 12!

Yesterday the village crew swept up leaves. Today they plow snow. And, it is only Nov. 12. Bluffton schools were also cancelled for the first time this year due to weather conditions. Here's snow plowing on the pedestrian pathway on Bentley Road. Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, reports that Monday's snowfall was 4.9 inches.

Planning commission gets Parkview development phase II update

Also discusses zoning options in Jefferson Street neighborhood

Bluffton’s village planning commission, meeting Nov. 4, discussed phase II of the Parkview subdivision and also zoning along Jefferson Street between the railroad and county line.

Members of the planning commission are Mayor Richard Johnson, Bob Amstutz, Roger Edwards and Dick Ramseyer. Also attending were Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, and Mitch Kingsley, council representative.
