Your invitation to be in the BHS homecoming parade on Oct. 4

Bluffton High School football parents invite participants to the Friday, Oct. 4, BHS homecoming parade.

The parade forms at 5 p.m. in the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool parking lot. The parade starts at 5:30 p.m., heading south on Main Street to College Avenue and to Harmon Field.

BHS and Ada series started in early 1920s - before Pirates were Bluffton's mascot

ADA - After a 2-1 non-league start, Bluffton journeys to Ada Friday night to face a Bulldog squad coming off of its first victory in a critical Northwest Conference opener.

The Pirates defeated winless Defiance Ayersville 35-14 in week three. Ada is 1-2 after thumping USV 45-14 Satuday night in a game delayed a day by bad weather.

The Bulldogs lost to tough MAC foe New Bremen 51-21 in their opener, then fell in week two at Arlington 26-12. But they are quickly improving on defense, and feature several dangerous threats on offense.

Bring your Nerf darts to BFR on Sept. 27

Bluffton Family Rec kicks off this year's Fall Festival

Bluffton Family Recreation kicks off this year’s Bluffton Fall Festival on Friday, Sept. 27, with the popular Nerf pipe gun wars from 5 to 7 p.m., according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

“Bring your own Nerf darts. All ages are welcome and the cost is $5 per player,” he said. Also, that evening, food trucks will open at 5 p.m. followed by a family-friendly movie, "Coco, on the lawn. The movie will be shown around dusk, near 7:30 p.m.

“Bring your own blankets, chairs and snacks for the free movie,” he said.

Alexis Cash HCAC women's cross country athlete of the week

Alexis Cash (Gaines, Mich.) Bluffton University senior, is the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's cross country player of the week.

Cash lead the Beaversswith a 10th place finish in 24:03.5 fora recent 8-kilometer race.

In a notable performance, Dakota Frost (Edgerton) Bluffton University Senior paced the Beaver's men's team, coming in 15th place with a time of 27:10.7 for the 8-kilometer race.

$840,000 grant comes to Bluffton

Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, informed Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce members on Friday that the village is the recipient of an $840,000 grant. The grant will provide a pathway along State Route 103 from County Line Road to Wendy's and is slated for completion in 2023.

“God has called me here. I felt it the moment I arrived. This is home.”

Rev. John McLaughlin installation Saturday at St. Mary's

There’s a New York Mets cap in Rev. John McLaughlin’s office at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. There’s also a Notre Dame cap.

Both are naturals for a priest, whose parents were Irish immigrants to Brooklyn. Rev. McLoughlin is the new priest for the St. Mary’s parish. His installation is at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20. Bishop Daniel Thomas, will preside.
