Kewpee High School Art Invitation opens Friday

ArtSpace/Lima will host the 28th Annual Kewpee High School Art Invitational from Feb. 26 to April 9.

MMH 'Delay the Disease' Parkinson's program seeks volunteers

Volunteers are needed for assisting participants in the ‘Delay the Disease’ Parkinson’s program at Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton. 

MMH offers this free exercise program to those in the Bluffton community dealing with the effects of Parkinson’s as a means to ‘Delay the Disease’ through movement, flexibility and mobility.

Kylee Barnett on ONU women's lacrosse team

Kylee Barnett, Bluffton High School graduate, is a member of the Ohio Northern University women’s lacrosse team this spring.
 
Barnett is a junior at ONU majoring in exercise physiology. She will play defense on the team.
 
This is the inaugural season for women’s lacrosse at ONU. The first game is in Ada, at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27. ONU takes o.n Olivet

William Shackelford was a 1967 graduate of Cory-Rawson HS

William Elton “Bill” Shackelford, Sr., 66, died Jan. 31, 2016, at his residence in Las Vegas, Nev.  Bill was born Aug. 17, 1949, in Bluffton to the late Ralph and Elvira Gress Shackelford.

Bill retired from the U.S. Army in 1988 after 20 years where he had served in Viet Nam and then became a recruiter.  He had also worked in auto sales in Marietta, Ga., from 1990 – 1992 and 14 years in Las Vegas working at McCarran Airport for Huntleigh Corp. as a driver.  Bill graduated from Cory-Rawson High School in 1967 where he played on the undefeated football team in 1966.

Betty Jo Hughes Carmean 1923-2016

Betty Jo Hughes Carmean, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at 9:40 p.m. at her residence in Lima, Ohio.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1923, in Lima, Ohio, to Rush and Ruth (Gossard) Hughes who preceded her in death. On Dec. 5, 1945, she married Eugene Carmean, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 8, 1979.

Betty Jo was a homemaker. She previously worked at Lima Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the Lima First Assembly of God Church.
