It's all about making Main Street Bluffton a special summer place

Sponsorships are now being accepted for this summer’s downtown Bluffton flowerpots.

According to Susie and Steve Stratton of Stratton Greenhouses, “This is our 15th year for providing the potted plants on Main Street.”

To make this happen Strattons invite contributions to keep the program going. This year the sponsorships are $140 per pot. If payments are received by Tuesday, April 6, the cost is $135 per pot.

C-R elementary principal gets head shaved for a great cause

Ben Thiel, Cory-Rawson elementary principal gets his head shaved on Thursday morning - and it's all for a great cause.

This winter Cory-Rawson elementary students  participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Hero Squad program, a fundraiser for children with these blood cancers.

"We challenged our students to raise $1,000 and our principal, Ben Thiel, would shave his head," said Wendie Swary, elementary guidance counselor.

"Within the first two weeks they met that goal. We gave a second challenge of $1,500 and we would provide popcorn and a movie.

BHS spring teams looking for first wins

Carey  homers blast Pirate boys

CAREY - The visiting Buffton baseball team lost 16-6 at Carey on a warm Tuesday evening.

The Pirates fell to 0-4 with the five-inning, run-rule shortened defeat.

Blue Devils Jordan Vallejo and Gavin Baker each hit two home runs to lead Carey's 12-hit offense. In the first inning, the duo slammed back-to-back homers as they built an early 8-0 lead.

The Pirates rallied within 8-5 behind a big third inning, but Carey scored eight unanswered runs to put the game out of reach.

Ministerial Association procession of the cross Friday

Starts at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church

Bluffton Area Ministerial Association will hold its Good Friday procession of the cross on April 2.

"We will have the cross loaded in a truck with folks walking behind socially distanced and preferably wearing masks. Family units are fine together," said Rev. Jeremy Mann, pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ.

Tickets on sale for MHCO Service Group chicken barbecue

Proceeds support purchase of a handicap accessible van

The Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio Service Group is selling tickets for a barbecue fundraiser offering curbside pick up on Saturday, April 24, from 4-6 p.m. at Bubba C BBQ, 158 N. Jackson St., Bluffton.

Proceeds will support the purchase of a handicap accessible van. Tickets are $8 and may be purchased now through  Saturday, April 17, from Service Group members of Emmanuel Church of Christ, English Lutheran, Ebenezer Mennonite, First Mennonite, Grace Mennonite, St John Mennonite, St John's United Church of Christ, and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
