Mercy Health celebrates Neil Armstrong’s visit to the moon

Former Astronaut Gregory H. Johnson visits Lima July 19

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon, Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center is hosting an opportunity for individuals to meet former Astronaut and Col. Gregory H. Johnson.

On Friday, July 19, at 10 a.m., he will be giving a presentation at the St. Rita’s Auxiliary Conference Center. There is no cost to attend and light refreshments will be served.

Blanchard Valley Hospital receives stroke distinctions

Blanchard Valley Hospital has recently been named a recipient of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The GuidelinesTarget: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus, as well as the Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award.

These awards recognize the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to national guidelines and standards. Blanchard Valley Hospital earned the Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus achievement by meeting specific quality measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients.

Noteworthy performance

Vicki Mills directs the Noteworthy Community Choir during the intermission of the patrotic pops concert at ONU on Saturday. Additional photos are in this series. Mills conducts the first-ever Summer Sounds Choral Camp, July 15-19, at ONU.

Swimmers on your mark!

Swim meet brings nearly 3,000 people to Bluffton on Friday and Saturday

More than 500 swimmers and their families will descend on Bluffton on Friday and Saturday for the annual Western Ohio Aquatics League (WOAL) swim champs. The WOAL is for swimmers aged 4-18 who are members of one of the league’s teams.

Bluffton Community Swimming Pool is the host site for the 2019 swim champs and will host eight teams from:
• Ada
• Bluffton
• Kenton
• Shawnee Country Club
• Sherwood
• Wapakoneta,
• Westside and
• Van Wert

Pandora-Gilboa vs. Bluffton HS football rivalry returns after 54 season absence

It’s July, but let’s talk fall Bluffton High School sports.

Alex Hanna, BHS athletic director, released the fall sports schedules, attached at the bottom of this story.

One rivalry of the past is back on the BHS football schedule as the Pirates host Pandora-Gilboa on Friday, Sept. 6, in a non-conference game.
