Leaf pick up begins week of Oct. 26

Leaf pick up in Bluffton will begin in full force the week of Oct. 26, according to Jesse Blackburn, village administrator.

He said that the village service department could make some leaf pick up rounds prior to that depending upon their schedule.

Leaves are to be placed in long, narrow rows at the curb edge of the tree lawn.

Bluffton water usage down 15 percent

Due to university, schools and business closing as a result of covid-19

Bluffton’s water usage decreased by 15.5 percent this year due to Bluffton University, Bluffton schools and businesses shut down due to covid-19.

David Steiner of the council utility committee appraised council of that fact on Monday. 

The cost of water production allocated to Bluffton is $550,304 compared to last year’s cost of $549,355.

The Bluffton rate per 100 cubic foot of water will increase from $2.06 to $2.44 due to the decreased volume of water spread over approximately the same fixed costs of production.

Clint Dailey flushes a fire hydrant on Harmon Road across from Vetter Lumber. All village hydrants are flushed in the spring and fall. The fall flushing got underway this week.

BHS student of the month hopes to pursue medicine or dentistry

Grace Meyers active in many school and outside school activities

Bluffton High School senior, Grace Meyers is the September student of the month.

She is captain of the BHS volleyball team and plays on the softball team. This year she is president of the Bluffton Cattlemen 4-H Club and was the 2020 Allen County Poultry queen. 

She is a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church "God Squad," tutors at the Bluffton Elementary School and is a member of the Bluffton High School National Honor Society.

Icon' 4th year of accreditation from Better Business Bureau

For the fourth year, Bluffton and Ada Icons received re-accreditation from the Better Business Bureau, serving West Central Ohio, according to Fred Steiner, owner. The Icons joined BBB in 2017. 

Businesses meeting Better Business Bureau ethical standards may be invited to become accredited, and these firms provide the financial support which allows BBB to offer services to communities at no charge.

10 Pirates score in blowout at Paulding

Regular season ends on the road at Kalida on Thursday

PAULDING - Visiting Bluffton whipped Paulding 13-1 in a boys soccer mismatch Monday night.

The lopsided win improved the Pirate boys record to 13-0-2 this season. Winless Paulding fell to 0-15 with the defeat.

Ten different Pirates scored in the blowout win.

Jonathan Schriner scored two goals, one in the very first minute of play and again in the 44th minute.

Jude Spallinger tallied in the eighth and 43rd minutes of play.
