Riley overflows into Buckeye – and out again

Here's the walking path between the Buckeye and Riley Creek. At 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, water from the creek was still flowing into the Buckeye at the east end. The next photos shows water leaving the Buckeye, returning to the stream at the west end at Spring Street. And, finally, a great blue heron is spotted in the second and third photos, watching the photographer.

Big blue

How many great blue herons make the Big and Little Riley their fishing grounds? We don't know the answer, but this one hangs out frequently in the morning and evening hours on the Little Riley between Ropp Hall and Bentley Road.  See if you can fit it in the next photo in this series.
