Advice from a master

Taking advice from a guy nearly 900 years old, reads this sign on the main floor hallway of Bluffton High School. Just to clarify, the teacher is not 900 year old, just the guy offering the advice.

On International Women's Day

It's worth noting who is running the store on Bluffton's Main Street

You’d never know it, but once upon a time it was called the Bluffton Business Men’s Association.

The title changed over the years and today, it’s not your grandfather, dad, brother or uncle running the downtown store. It’s your grandmother, mother, sister or aunt.

The Icon recognizes International Women’s Day, today, March 8, and the leadership roles of women in Bluffton, on Main Street and in other communty leadership roles.

They call the needle Moderna

Everyone could use a little needling now and then. Especially now.

By Fred Steiner
Completing my civic duty, on Friday I had my second appointment with the Needle they call Moderna.

Was it lovelier the second time around? Emphatically yes.

Everyone could use a little needling now and then. Especially now.

And, everyone who gets the Needle should tell others to get it. That would make the world a better, safer place. So, I’m telling you about it.

West College Avenue bridge ribbon cutting?

Here’s a Bluffton ribbon-cutting photo without any information, but we are working on a theory and we are checking it out with our esteemed list of Bluffton history fact-checkers, so stay tuned.

Jim Diller provided this photo, taken by his father, Paul Diller.

Our guess is this is 1960, based on the yellow-orange license plate on a Chevy station wagon. The tan and white car is a 1959 Pontiac.

The persons we’ve identified from left are William “Kaiser” Gaiffe, Clayton Bixel, _____, _____, Wilbur Amstutz (he was mayor from 1960-65), ___, ___, ___.
