Bluffton University commencement 2 p.m. in Sommer Center

Dr. Karen A. Longman, program director and professor of doctoral higher education at Azusa (Calif.) Pacific University, will be Bluffton University’s commencement speaker on Sunday, May 3. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in the Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education.

At Azusa Pacific, Longman directs a program that serves just over 100 doctoral students from around the world. She teaches courses including Higher Education Administration, Introduction to U.S. Higher Education, Policy and Politics, and Higher Education Ethics.

71st annual Sportsmen's Club trout derby Sunday

Anglers at the 71st annual Bluffton trout derby will be aiming for “Big Andy,” the number one trout named so in honor of Andy Herrmann, longtime Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club director.

The trout derby will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the Buckeye Quarry, Main St., Bluffton. The derby includes more than 200 tagged trout with prizes to be awarded. Additional prizes will be awarded to the person who catches the longest trout and the person catching the first trout limit of four.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Bluffton University baseball team wrapped up their 2015 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of Transylvania, winning 6-5 and 10-9 in Lexington, Ky. on Saturday, May 2. The Beavers finished the season with a school record for total wins (22-18), as well as for HCAC victories (15-12) on the season!

Farmers' Market opens

That's a Larson Barbecue sandwich awaiting a customer at the Bluffton Farmers' Market. The market opened for the 2015 season on Saturday.

ANDERSON, Ind. - A big six-run second inning sparked the Bluffton University softball team to a 6-1 opening round victory over Manchester University at the HCAC Tournament in Anderson, Ind. Bluffton senior hurler Chloe Shell (Covington) threw six shutout innings in the victory. The Beavers improved to 26-14, while the Spartans dropped to 16-16.
