Big weekend in Bluffton - lots to do, and here's the list of events

There’s a lot to do in Bluffton this weekend. In fact, you’d think Christmas is around the corner.  Here are events from The Icon calendar:

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, NOV. 9-10

Town and Country Flowers
Town and Country Flowers, 121 S. Main St., Bluffton, announces a store-wide Christmas open house, according to Connie Kruse, of the store.

Polished Nails and Body Salon
Polished Nails and Body Salon, 417 N. Main St., Bluffton, will offer a "tans for cans" special during a Bluffton food pantry drive Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10, according to Joan Frederick of Polished. "In return for your donation you can tan for free or try the Red Light Rejuvenation," said Frederick. "We will also offer major discounts on services."
• One can donation is good for one packet of lotion.

• Five can donations is good for one free tan.

FRIDAY, NOV. 9

Relay for Life Bingo
The Village Cut 'n' Curl and friends will hold a community Bingo benefit for the Bluffton Relay for Life. The event is at the Bluffton Middle School cafetorium. Doors open at 5 p.m. and Bingo is played from 6 to 9 p.m. Food concessions available. All proceeds go to Bluffton's Relay. Emmanuel UCC fish fry

Emmanuel United Church of Christ will hold its annual fall fish fry at the church located at 8375 Phillips Road, Bluffton.
The dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall.


The menu includes: 
•deep fried fish, 
•cheesy potatoes,
 •baked beans and calico beans,
•green bean bake, 
•macaroni and cheese,
 •buttered bread,
 •a variety of salads, 
•a big selection of homemade desserts and 
•beverages.
The cost for the meal is $7 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. Persons may eat in or carry out.

Maple Crest spaghetti dinner and pie contest

Maple Crest Senior Living Village, Bluffton, will hold a pie-baking contest. The contest takes place at Maple Crest, 700 Maple Crest Court, just off Augsburger Road.

Pies to be judged must be delivered to Maple Crest by 2 p.m. Judging takes place at 3:30 p.m. in the Patio Room. All who enter must bring two pies of the same recipe. One pie is for judging, the second pie is for a silent auction.

There are three categories: cream, fruit, and nut pies. The contest accepts pies from amateur and professional bakers (including restaurants, caterers, bakeries and grocery stores). Judging will be based on taste, appearance and texture. The judges will be professional bakers.

Cash prizes will be given in the different categories. The grand prize of $100 goes to the baker of the best pie overall. Cash prizes are awarded in the other categories.


There will also be a spaghetti supper from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for a spaghetti dinner with breadsticks, salad, dessert and a beverage.  Persons attending may taste test pies as well as bid on them in the silent auction, which begins at 5 p.m. Each pie will have an $8 opening bid and bids will increase in $1 increments. All proceeds will benefit the Maple Crest Memory Garden Project.

SATURDAY, NOV. 10

Ten Thousand Villages
Ten Thousand Villages, S. Main St., Bluffton, will hold a one-day-only bag sale according to Aphaphanh Nussbaum, manager. "You may take 20 percent off everything you can fit in our special shopping bag during this sale," she said. (Not valid with other discounts, purchase of gift cards or Oriental rugs or Traveler's Finds.")

 

New Leaf Landscape and Garden Center

New Leaf Landscape and Garden Center, 0395 State Route 235, Ada, will hold a Christmas open house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will include specials and all customers may sign up to win a $100 gift certificate.

The decorated store will offer:
• Unique decorations - country and traditiona l
• Artificial trees, wreaths and greenery 
• Chocolate peanut cluster and other candy
 • Grape vine trees, wreaths and more
New Leaf has fresh-cut and ready to plant Christmas trees, live wreaths, roping, greens, cemetery blankets and more, arriving by Thanksgiving.

St. Mary's Catholic Church craft bazaar

St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bluffton, will hold a Christmas craft bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the church, 160 N. Spring St.

The event includes a silent raffle and offers handcrafted items for sale from crafters and vendors. Admission is $2 or two cans of food. All admissions proceeds will be donated to the Bluffton food pantry.
