Youth skills program starts soon; free adult classes for new fitness participants

Several youth and adult class options will open soon at BFR Sports and Fitness, according to Carole Enneking, director.

Basketball skill program for youth 
Youth athletes preparing for upcoming seasons and or those working to improve in the off-season are welcome to register for the upcoming sport programs at BFR Sports and Fitness.

A pre-season basketball warm-up clinic, under the direction of Jared Byers, will meet on Thursdays (Oct. 31 to Nov. 21) from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Boys and Girls (grades 3, 4, 5 or 6) will work on game-based drills as well as ball handling drills. This clinic is designed for youth who will be participating on teams during the winter months.

Cost of the clinic is $25 ($15 BFR) and includes four, 75-minute skills sessions. Van transportation from Bluffton schools is available for a nominal fee. To register, contact BFR by calling 419-358-4150 or visiting the website www.bfronline.com

Two indoor soccer programs
Two options for soccer players are about to begin, as well. U9 Soccer Indoor Play is an after-school program starting on Monday, Oct. 28. The U9 program combines indoor soccer drills with scrimmage play; informal teams will be created each week for those participating. Prior indoor soccer experience is not required for this program. Amy Byers will lead this program. Youth can be ages 6, 7 or 8 to participate. Cost for the four-week program is $25 ($15 BFR). 

Another indoor soccer option is a U8 Friday night indoor soccer league starting Nov. 8. Individual player sign-up will be accepted and players will be assigned to a team; BFR staff (college-age players) will provide coaching. Teams will be one game per week for five weeks (Nov. 8, 15, 22, 29 and Dec. 6). Cost to participate in the U8 league is $35 per player; players should have at least one season of U8 outdoor soccer experience and age 6 or 7.

Volleyball skill program
Youth volleyball players are welcome to register for a skills class beginning Nov. 6 from 4-5 p.m. (Note the time change). Jenna Buroker will lead the six-week program that will develop passing, setting and serving skills. 

Girls must be in grades 3, 4, 5 or 6. Game-based drills will be included, as well. Cost for the skill sessions will b $30 ($15BFR). Van transportation from Bluffton schools is available for a nominal fee. To register, contact BFR by calling 419-358-4150 or visiting the website www.bfronline.com.

Free classes for new fitness participants
A challenge to “Fill BFR Fitness Classes” is underway. Current class members are encouraged to bring a new participant to class. When a new person attends both the new participant and the current participant will attend without charge. The Challenge will continue through Nov. 9.

Morning options include the 7:30 a.m. Total Body Conditioning class (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), All Star Workout (Monday and Wednesday 8:30 a.m.), Low Impact Aerobics (Monday 10 a.m.), Strength & Flexibility (Thursday 10 a.m.), YogaFit  (Friday 8:30 a.m.) and Saturday Aerobic Mix (Saturdays 8:30 a.m.). 

Evening classes include the new Aqua Zumba program (Monday 6 p.m. held at Maple Crest), Kettlebell Workout (Monday 6 p.m.), Cardio & Strength (Tuesday 6 p.m.), YogaFit  (Wednesday 6:30 p.m. at the Bluffton Library), All Star Workout (Thursday 5:30 p.m.). All BFR Fitness Classes accept new participants at anytime through the year; instructors welcome new students and will work to involve them into each class. 

Childcare is currently available for the 8:30a.m. weekday morning classes. The typical cost for a fitness class is only $5 ($3 BFR) or Any Class Card options are available to bring the per class cost down even further.
