Cindi Chasse, Bluffton Public Library director retires

Using a book as a metaphor, you could say that the final chapter of Cindy Chasse’s story as director of Bluffton Public Library concluded on Saturday.

Chasse’s last day as director of the Bluffton Public Library was Saturday, although technically she retires on Dec. 21. She held the position since September 2009.

During Chasse’s four years as director, the Bluffton Public Library survived significant budget cuts from the state. To counter those cuts Chasse developed several fundraisers to create awareness of the library’s financial needs to its patrons.

She also developed several new programs that became popular to library patrons.

Then, in 2012, a $1.6 million bequest from the estate of Florence Duffield to the library aided its bottom line.

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce name Dec. 13 as Cindi Chasse Day in Bluffton.

Libby Hostettler, president of the library board, said that Jessica Hermiller of Grove City, Pa., is Chasse’s replacement. Hermiller, who will begin in Bluffton on Jan. 2, was most recently director of the Grove City Community Library. She holds a master’s of library science from Clarion University.
